Spyshots: BMW M4 Coupe Looks Production-Ready

Stories about BMW's future models are about as serious as the Vatican conclave, but the people who buy their cars like throwing napkins into the air at clubs and going through intersections sideways. And you know what? We do to… sometimes at least.

That's why we're not going to worry about when the release date for this car is, the exact horsepower output or the amount of millimeters it's grown. All we care about is that for most people, this is going to be the ultimate BMW.

It's the M4 coupe, a car we've been following for a long time, but which has never looked so production ready before. The prototype is complete with headlights, wheels, exhaust and interior, all the way they will be when we actually buy it next year.

The M4 will replace the M3 coupe and will be a little bit longer and wider but also lighter. BMW is going to replace the V8 with an engine known internally as the S55, a six-cylinder evolved from the N55 that still displaces 3 liters but could have as many as three turbines.

Let's forget about the power and just admire that body. The M3 was always a muscular beast, but this one looks a little bit leaner and lower. The kidney grille design has evolved and is flatter, while the bulge on the bonnet looks somewhat more complicated. Overall, this is one of the nicest BMWs we've seen, with the possible exception of the rear, which just isn't imposing enough.

This new coupe will be faster, more economical and better to look at. For that, we're going to lose a bit of that connected feel and the sound of a V8.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
