Our team of spy photographers have once again caught up with the BMW i3 electric hatchback, as it looks to be lapping a specially arranged course in the snow.
This is the going to be the first car launched by BMW under the ‘i’ brand. It’s going to be powered by an electric motor developing some 170 hp mounted in the back . With this much power on tap, it’s not going to be slow, as BMW is promising a 0-62mph sprint of 8 seconds.
The i3 will make extensive use of lightweight materials in order to save weight. The production form will launch next year, and BMW expects to sell some 30,000 units annually once distribution is in full swing. The battery range is expected to be 140 miles (225 km/h), but if even that’s not enough, they will also offer an optional range extender, likely to come in the form of an engine borrowed from the motorcycle division.
