Maybe ten years ago, the idea of driving around in cars that sounded like toasters seemed scary, but today the thought of paying $200 to fill up a tank scares us even more, so we're willing to live with EVs.
There's a couple of decent EV hatchbacks, the ultra sexy Tesla Model S and some bad cars we'd never be caught dead in. But the EV we actually want to live with every day is this, the BMW i3.

That's because BMW has made it look good and drive even better. The electric engine sends its power to the back wheels, so it could be a little drifting gem when you're feeling a bit playful.

Because not every corner of the world is accessible under electric power, you can have it with a range extender motor. And if you really want to travel, BMW will take your i3 and give you a regular car.

The electric hatchback was first revealed in 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show and will come full circle this year, showing up there as a production car.

We have the latest spy photos with the i3 as it will be once it rolls off the line, showing the roof of the car, the pillars and the lower bumpers. Under the camo is a new BMW color called Solar Orange metallic, which the automaker describes as being "warm shade bursting with energy that was created especially for the BMW i3." For contrast, the bonnet and part of the boot lid will be gloss black and the same will probably be said about the covered up grille.
