BMW’s test engineers are braving the cold, the dirty roads and reduced visibility to test out one of the most anticipated models of their range. Yes, this is the much anticipated BW 2-Series, which will replace the older versions of the 1-Series two-door model, which have become obsolete.
The new 2-Series is, of course, based on the 1-Series hatchback platform, and will share all of the engines and transmission options. However, it will be slightly more expensive, slightly more upmarket and in some cases slightly more powerful than the equivalent hatchback.

Both the 2-Series Coupe and Cabrio versions will have slightly different front and rear styling, with sleeker and more rounded headlights and a smaller grille. This first sighting of the 2-Series proves it will have a folding fabric roof, just like the previous 1-Series model.

Eventually, the 2-Series range will include a Gran Coupe 4-door with slightly lengthened wheelbase and roof line. Rumor has it, BMW is working on even an M version of this car to rival Audi’s S3 sedan and the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG.

Rumor has it BMW has already finished a preliminary design for a 2-Series GT model, which will look a little bit like the Alfa Romeo Brera.
