The world will soon have to get used to a front-wheel drive BMW, just like it has had to grow accustomed to BMW SUBs and BMW turbo engines. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the FWD 1-Series GT testing, but the model you see here is the actual production version, which has different A-pilar and roof line than before.
However, the heardlight assembly and front bumper aren’t quite ready for their big debut in summer 2013. From what we can tell, the 1-Series GT will be very close to the Concept Active Tourer we saw in Frankfurt.
Expect the engine range to be made up exclusively of 3-cylinder, diesel and petrol, and possibly also a 4-banger for the most powerful versions. Outputs are expected to top out at over 200 horsepower, which is impressive for a 1.5-liter turbo. Also, this model has twin exhaust, indicating it’s a performance model.
If FWD doesn’t flip your boat, the 1er GT will arrive in AWD flavor as well.
