Spyshots: Almost Undisguised Porsche Macan Spotted at Nurburgring

The Macan is not built to be sportier than the Cayenne, it's built to be cheaper and attract a lot more buyers to the brand. While Porsche's top engineers are busy making the ultra-powerful 918 hybrid supercar, their main goal is actually to increase global sales to 200,000 units per year, which is double what they had in 2010, while maintaining good levels of profitability.

Because of this, the Macan is actually based on the Audi Q5 platform. It will be sold exclusively with smaller 4- and 6-cylinder engines, both petrol and diesel. The most impressive model will be a Turbo or Turbo S, exactly the one in our latest spy photos. It will use the new 3-liter V6 biturbo that replaced the 4.8-liter V8 in the Panamera S and 4S.

Porsche has just announced a new 300 PS V6 diesel engine for the new Panamera as well, and this is likely to be among the most popular engines in the Macan.

The thing that strikes you about these photos is just how sharp this car looks compared to the Audi Q5. Porsche really knows how to make a car look sporty
