This fully-camouflaged car is perhaps one of the most important Volkswagen Group vehicle right now, the all-new Passat. We've seen it before as a test mule, but never has this full-bodied prototype been seen.
Riding on the new MQB platform, the new sedan and estate models will be sharing their architecture with the new Golf. While some might say VW is making the same sausage in different sizes, nobody has complained about a hamburger tasting like the Big Mac before.

From a design point of view, the new Passat will look more athletic and elegant. Volkswagen isn't into making facelifts, so this new model will have to be right the first time.

While the new Golf came with a new platform and a few, relatively interesting engines, the new Passat will come with a lot of interesting engines. We think VW will deliver on their promise for a high performance diesel family and will hopefully push the 2.0 TDI to 200 hp or so.

This particular test vehicle tells us the story of the less well equipped 2015 Passat. It has no fog lights, no LED headlights and the wheels come from the next Golf Plus if we're not mistaken.

So when is this new Passat coming to America? Likely not until mid-2016. They just announced 2015 model year changes to the current model, which include new turbocharged engines and are likely to hold on to the existing model, just like they're doing with the Golf.
