BMW is well known for launching numerous model updates. Even though their generations are closely spaced together, facelifts are also introduced, keeping everything they make fresh. We've recently snapped the first photos of the 4 Series Gran Coupe facelift.
Even though our time with the 4er GC is still fresh in our minds, BMW is going ahead with the Life Cycle Impulse, as they like to name facelifts. The changes are easy to spot, the most noticeable being those planned for the headlights.
As with the 3 Series facelift that is already in production, the 4er 4-door model is getting a front face that closely resembles that of the 7 Series. The outline of the headlights is the same as before, but the inner bits have that geometric bracket/ slanted question mark appearance.
Between them, the trademark kidney grilles are also having their makeover done in the new 7 Series style. It's the first time a car from the 4 Series range has been seen undergoing testing, so we're excited to see how these updates will be carried over to the M4.
According to the BMW build schedule, these changes will be launched during the 2018 model year, although they could be revealed as early as the 2017 Geneva Motor Show next March.
From what we can figure, the company isn't going to make any engine updates at all. That's because those have already been announced for this model year. Let's recap!
The 428i model, which has been very popular, will be replaced by the 430i. Not only is this easier to remember, but it will also have slightly more power from a new 2-liter turbo engine. In the US, the number to look for is 248-horsepower, while the Europeans will read 252 PS.
The other cool update will be for the 440i model that replaces the 435i and will use a 326 PS 3-liter turbo mill. New generations of TwinPower engines are being made available through, lowering fuel consumption through directly bolted on turbochargers, active grilles, and other cool methods.
