The test prototype for the next generation of Opel Meriva MPV has been caught by our team of spy photographers once more. Most of the camouflage is still in place. However, they were able to get close and see the headlights, mirrors, and other smaller design details.
As you can see, the new Meriva will lack the so-called FlexDoor setup, where the rear doors open in the coach style. By doing away with this more complex mechanism, Opel hopes to lower the production cost and become more competitive.

It's worth noting that there's another reason for dropping the FlexDoor arrangement. You see, the Meriva will be based on the same platform as the Peugeot 308. What? Yes, GM and PSA signed a complex agreement that included co-development of everything from A- to D-segment cars.

Unfortunately, things didn't work out, but the Meriva is still being made using components that will be shared with the upcoming Peugeot 3008.

Despite being an MPV, the new Meriva will design elements from the crossover segment. Despite the camouflage, you can tell how rounded and raised the lower portion of the car is, just like on the Mokka.

From a distance, the test prototype appears to have a makeshift taillight cluster made up of four circular elements on each side. But upon closer inspection, our spies were able to discover the production unit is hiding underneath and features a raised edge.

We'd like to tell you what's under the bonnet, but we don't know at the moment. The 1.4-liter SIDI Turbo and the latest 1.6-liter diesels used by the Astra K seem like excellent bets.

Just to give you an idea of what we're working with, the all-new Peugeot 3008 is said to have a 3-cylinder petrol 1.2 PureTech engine with 130 PS and a 1.6-liter making 165 PS. Its diesel options will be the most numerous, ranging from a basic 1.6-liter with 120 PS model to the most powerful 2-liter making 180 PS.
