Spyshots: 2016 Opel Mokka Facelift Gets Astra K LED Headlights

We last saw the test prototype for the Opel Mokka mid-life facelift back in June. Between then and now, it's gained quite a few new features, including the LED headlights with an L-shaped crease at the top seen on the Astra K hatchback.

A new grille, taillights and bumpers have also been installed. If the Corsa is anything to go by, Opel might as well call this Mokka facelift an all-new model.

Jokes aside, we're pleased that one of the most popular small crossovers in Europe is getting the same headlight technology as the Astra.

There aren't that many subcompact cars that offer LED headlights, so Opel may be able to ask around €1,000 for the system without worrying that nobody will buy it.

Even though the Mokka is based on a smaller and older platform, we suspect some of the Astra's engines will be adopted. Most engines will be matched to a new 6-speed manual gearbox, though an automatic will be available on high-end models.

The first will be a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbo. It might sound too small for a car this size, but we assure you that downsized turbo engines now have enough power. The 1-liter may replace the existing 1.6-liter entry-level unit, offering slightly more torque and better fuel economy.

Also likely to be replaced is the 1.4-liter turbo. The latest versions developed for the Astra offer either 125 PS or 150 PS and 245 Nm of torque. The modest power gains will be accompanied by reductions in CO2 emissions of around 10%.

More importantly, the Mokka will be one of the most powerful crossovers in this segment as its French rivals predominantly stop at 110 horsepower. The majority of sales will come from the diesel side, where 2016 Opel Mokka models will offer two output stages for the 1.6-liter, 110 and 136 PS. Later on, a version with even less power will debut, with about 95 PS, to be more precise.
