Spyshots: 2016 G11 BMW 7 Series Prototype Nears Production Form

Even though BMW doesn't treat the 7er like Mercedes does the S-Class, the current generation F01 is the first of the F cars, the first to end the horrible Bangle era design language and introduce the sort of interior features we take for granted in a 3 Series.

A facelift was introduced last year and round about the same time, they started work on a brand new model. We've seen the G11 test car on a number of occasions, but now we have more body panels to tell us about the production car, which is still 2 years away.

The test prototype has just gained side rocker panels, a rear diffuser with integrated trapezoidal exhaust and a bumper with wide intakes. Wide and planted, the 7er is strangely rolling on some very small wheels and tires comparable to its size.

Their new flagship sedan is scheduled to arrive in 2015, and by that time the German automaker will be prepared to make full use of the CFRP technology developed for the i3. CFRP is a compromise that keeps most of the benefits of carbon fiber but makes it easier to mass produce. It also means the 7 Series could lose as much as 200 kg (440 lbs).

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
