Spyshots: 2015 Land Rover Freelander (LR2) Mule Testing at Nurburgring
All those changes are meant to keep this old bird going a few more years until a replacement is ready. Work has already begun on the 2015 Freelander, as this test mule based on the Evoque is actually underpinned by a different wheelbase destined to go into the next generation cheapest Land Rover.
Jaguar Land Rover has a number of test facilities located around the world, and after it tasted the snow and ice in Sweden, the prototype was moved to the Nurburgring. These are still early days for the Freelander, since it doesn't even have its own body yet, but it should be ready for a debut in late 2014.
The model will be called the Freelander 3 in Europe and most of the world, or the 2015 LR2 in the United States. Rumor has it Land Rover will drops alphabetic names like LR2 and LR4 though, so it could be just "Freelander 3" all across the world. Power will come from a now familiar range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engine. The body will have some aluminum, but mostly steel in order to keep costs down.
