These are our very first photos of the cargo van dubbed the Hyundai Transporter without its heavy camouflage at the front. This prototype has been spotted once before, but since then engineers have taken off the black fabric bags masking the front, thus revealing a design similar to all-new Genesis.
Previewing a possible new design direction for the Korean company, a large hexagonal grille is fitted to the van, connecting new headlights that are also designed with simple straight lines. For anybody who's looked at a Hyundai in the past few years, this will seem uncanny and bewildering, almost too similar to what Audi is doing right now.
Hyundai already has a number of commercial vehicles on sale, including the H1/H800, which is available in passenger or cargo carrier forms. In Korea, they even make trucks and busses, so it's not surprising that they have the know-how to develop a high-top van as well.
As a touch of class, the Hyundai Transporter will feature plenty of chromed trim, optional LED daytime running lights and indicators relocated to either the mirrors or the headlights.
Once it enters production, probably within a year, the Korean van will go up against popular models like the Mercedes Sprinter or the Renault Master. Power should come from an EU6-compliant 2.5-liter CRDi, similar to the one in the H1 and producing 170 hp.
Editor's note: Jesus Hyundai, do you Audi much?!
