Since the S-Max Concept was unveiled last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show, every cool mom and dad thought "Gee, looks rather posh and it would be a great runaround for the whole family." Young parents need not to fret because the pre-production version of the Ford S-Max draws most of its visual cues from the aforementioned sleek minivan concept.
As opposed to the first two sets of spyshots we've already covered (first, second), the pre-production S-Max our carparazzi spotted testing in Europe was wearing slightly more revealing black camouflage inside and out. The headlight clusters are the most exposed elements this time, sporting high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps and daytime running lights (DRL).
There's no sign of LEDs, but there's a very big chance they're hidden somewhere underneath the front camouflage blanket. Styling-wise, the headlights have a Fiesta + Fusion + Mondeo combo about them, with the overall result being quite tasteful as far as MPVs are concerned. Compared to the concept's two L-shaped LED strips, the pre-production Ford S-Max incorporates traditional fog lamps positioned low on the sides of the front bumper.
From the looks of it, the front radiator grille follows the trapezoidal design previewed on the concept, along with the horizontal chrome bars that give this car's front a tad of elegance. Round the back, the tail lamps are chuck-full of LEDs and have been blessed with quite a dignified identity by Ford's design team. In contrast to the concept, the car spotted wears 10-double-spoke wheels wrapped in Continental rubber.
But the big news comes from the inside, where it's easy to tell that the dashboard, steering wheel, central air vents and infotainment touchscreen are all carbon copies of what we've seen on the S-Max Concept and on the more fancy S-Max Vignale Concept. According to reports, the second generation Ford S-Max will be launched in Europe early next year and the US-spec version will hit dealer showrooms sometime in 2015 as well.
