The A4 Allroad might not be the pretties vehicle in the world, but it does offer a good blend of cargo space and the driving dynamics of a regular estate. Not surprisingly, Audi probably wants to make another generation, based on the new B9 architecture they're developing for the rest of the 2015 A4 lineup.
We believe this test mule, spotted near their testing facilities in Germany, is being used by the engineers to test the new drivetrains for that car. From a distance, it looks like a regular A4 sedan. However, the wheel arches are wider at the back and the suspension is raised, just like it would be on the A4 Allroad. The hood of the car also has latches on so it can easily be removed, allowing technicians to work on the engine.
Speaking of engines, much is anticipated from the new A4 family of cars. Audi is expected to switch from conventional all-wheel drive central differentials to hybrid ones where the rear wheels are motivated by a 95 horsepower electric motor. A 2.0 BiTDI engine has also been rumored with output above 200 horsepower.
The A4 is also rumored to get the 1.4 TSI turbo with cylinder deactivation. This 150 hp engine would be the smallest ever used on the A4, which currently offers de-tuned 1.8-liter engines on the base models.
This is just speculation though, since the highly niche in which the A4 is sold means its true secrets are unlikely to come out until the official debut. For now, we know that will take place by the end of 2015.
