Spyshots: 2014 W205 Mercedes Benz C-Class Sheds Some Camo

You know the saying, there are two types of car in this world: Mercedes and the others. Of course, that same saying is probably also used for BMW, Audi, iPhones, people and who knows what else, but that doesn't detract from the fact that Mercedes build some great cars.

One of our favorite Mercs is the C-Class, not because of what it is, but because of what it isn't. There are few videos of regular old C-sedans being driven by idiots, even fewer of them being tuned with huge wheels and garbage can exhausts and no horror stories about them braking down all the time.

Though it has received an awesome mid-life refresh a few years ago, the current model is showing its age in places like the size of the wheelbase or the number of modern features. The Germans are getting ready to put this new car into production, and when they do, BMW had better be ready.

So what about the engines, will the W205 be getting any new bangers? In a nutshell, yes. Mercedes started from the bottom and introduced the A- and B-Class first, so they have many small engines that will be adapted for longitudinal architectures with new oil sumps and such.

There will also be new larger engines. The one we're most excited about is going into the C400, a 3-liter turbo V6 rated at 333 PS. There's also talk of a 4.0-liter V8 being offered for the AMG version, or should we say 'versions' since two of them are expected.

When is this new C-Class coming out? Our simplest answer is "after the S-Class", which is having its debut in March.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
