Opel is planning a major refresh of its models in order to recuperate lost ground in the European marketplace. The new Insignia is ready, having been revealed a week ago, which leaves the German company time to focus on cars like the Corsa and its MPV relative, the Meriva.
Having been revealed in 2010, the Meriva is still relatively fresh, but will gain new design elements at the front, including a redesigned grille and bumper. Niels Loeb's design was already one of the most interesting compact MPVs on the market, so most of the the ‘blade’ features down the side of the body and reversed rear door are still very fresh.
Apart from changes at the front, the Meriva will probably get interior upgrades as well, though out spy photographers were unable to get close enough to the prototype and shoot the dash. As far as the mechanicals are concerned, the existing 1.7-liter diesel engine will be swapped for the 136 PS 1.6-liter which is more economical and refined.
The facelifted Meriva should be ready to go on sale next year and could debut at the 2013 IAA in Frankfurt.
