The 2014 Nissan Qashqai will make its official debut towards the end of the year, but once again our spy photographers have caught up with the prototype while it was testing. Still covered in black plastic bags held together with tape, the crossover nevertheless appears to look very good.
The Qashqai is Nissan's best selling model in Europe and is singlehandedly responsible for keeping the company in the green during the harsh years of downturn in the old continent. However, Nissan has a number of cool new cars to sell, including the Note supermini with MPV practicality and an upcoming compact car.
The new Qashqai will be revealed in full some three months from now at the Frankfurt Motor Show and will enter production in Sunderland in December. The engine range will start with a new 1.2-liter supercharged unit replacing the old 1.6-liter atmospheric.
The 1.5-liter diesel will have a new turbo, injectors and a host of other improvements with will see its torque improved from 240 Nm to 260 Nm at 1,750rpm while fuel consumption drops 15%.
Our spy photographers were able to catch the new Qashqai with two of its doors open, revealing much better trim for the door cards and seemingly very robust sheetmetal.
