Lexus has already started work on the next generation of IS sedan, and this is the first sighting of the compact model in its test mule form.
This mule is using a modified version of the current IS, with slightly changed front and rear bumpers. Precious little is being revealed right now about the future model. The second generation of the Lexus IS was showcased at the Geneva Auto Show in 2005.

The third generation sedan that is currently undergoing testing in Europe is largely expected to arrive in the next couple of years.

Currently, in the US, this compact sedan is available with two engine configurations, 250 and 350, while in Europe an additional diesel solution, 220 D, can be opted for. But Lexus parent company Toyota has signed a deal with BMW last year that will see the Bavarians offering up their 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter diesel engines in exchange for hybrid technology and we can still hope the IS will benefit from this. However, BMW power is likely not for Lexus use.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
