Jeep has revealed that the Grand Cherokee SUV will have a short model year in the US because of the expected arrival of the 2014 refresh or facelift. A large group of prototypes have been caught by our spy photographers on what we believe to be their first tests.
Most of the cosmetic changes appear to be at the front of the car, where the Jeep grille appears to have been shortened. The new bumper is more curved and has a shape vaguely similar to that on a Land Rover Freelander - tapered upwards in the area of the headlights. Also new are the foglights and the lower grille.
In the US, the biggest change under the grille is the confirmed arrival of the first diesel - the 3.0-liter turbo V6 that’s sold in the European model. This is sourced from Fiat-owned VM Motori and should offer somewhere around 240 horsepower.
Available starting January 2013, the 2014 Grand Cherokee will have an eight-speed transmission licensed from ZF instead of the current five-speed automatic.
