By the middle of 2013, BMW should have a brand new family of vehicles, the 4-Series. This means that later in the year, the 1-Series will also spin off into the 2-Series range, which should include a coupe and convertible.
Earlier today, we showed you the next 2-Series Coupe, and now, it’s time to get familiar with the convertible as well. it’s also based on the F20 1-Series but looks wider in the hips and has had a radical face transplant.
No longer equipped with those fish-like eyes, the 2-Series looks like the baby 3-Series it was supposed to be all along.
Judging by the double exhaust, the visibly lowered suspension and the fact that the rear bumper has got ducts on the sides, the car we are looking at here is likely either the 125d with the M pack of the real M135i. Either way, don’t expect a limited slip differential to be fitted, since this is only for real M cars, but expect optional xDrive systems to be available. The 2-Series will be available with either a six-speed manual or a eight-speed automatic.
Our money is on the 2-Series being revealed as a concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Production will thus start in late spring 2014.
