Spyshots: 2014 Audi A3 Sedan

Audi reported record sales in 2012, despite the economic slowdown of the European region. In the United States Audi established a new sales record in every single month of the past year. By the time it tallied up the numbers, customers there had bought no less than 139,310 cars, an increase of almost 50% over 2011.

We have a sneaking suspicion that 2013 will be even better, as the same TDI clean diesels that that have boosted A3 and Q7 sales will now be available on a number of other models. The upcoming 2014 model year is probably when they will also their most important volume car so far.

Based on the new MQB platform, Audi's new A3 sedan will no doubt be offered as a better entry into the Audi USA range. It will probably sit in the range between the $27,270 hatchback and the $32,500 A4 Sedan. Speaking of hatchbacks, this new sedan shares its looks and underpinning with the new A3 Spotback that was launched in Europe but has yet to be made available in the US.

The A3 sedan should be offered with a 2.0 TFSI turbo gasoline engine producing 220 horsepower, as well as a 2.0 TDI with 140 hp. Both will get a six-speed manual as standard and a DSG automatic.

The new A3 sedan will also be targeted at the lucrative Chinese market, and will be assembled locally starting later this year.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
