Since they’ve already launched the 3-door variant in Europe, there was very little reason for Audi to marque the lines of this 5-door version. However, the test vehicle does give us a bit of insight into the different variants of the A3 that will be offered.
First off, this test prototype is barely camouflaged, with the only hidden bits on the car being the rings of its badge. Even the two-tone interior is clearly visible.
With the arrival of the A3 sedan scheduled for next year, the family was getting a bit crowded, so Audi is dropping the old estate version and calling this normal 5-door a “Sportback”. Compared to the 3-door, this will have a slightly longer wheelbase and roof rails.
The range of models will include an A3 Cabrio as well, and according to some reports an A3 Allroad. The engine range is expected to include many different powertrain types, including a plug-in hybrid and an all-electric e-tron.
