Spyshots: 2012 Mercedes B-Klasse
The vehicle is still wearing heavy camouflage, hiding its details from the public. However, the car’s silhouette shows us that it will keep the current mini MPV layout, although the car was rumored to come in a classic hatchback packaging.
Mercedes has big plans for the vehicle, as the company wants the model to dramatically reduce its customer’s average age (the figure is currently at 60) and will bring it to the U.S.
The new generation of the B-Klasse is expected to come in a multitude of body types, including a coupe cabrio and a sporty hatchback, as Mercedes plans to gain additional market share in the compact segment
One of the most valuable assets of the upcoming B-Klasse will be its engine line-up. This will include multiple downsized units that will use turbocharging to offer excellent efficiency and will also feature special powertrains: a hybrid one, a hydrogen fuel cell one (this was previewed by the B-Klasse F-Cell concept, released last year) and an AMG high performance one.
The hot version of the B-Klasse, which has already been confirmed, will be powered by an AMG-tuned four cylinder unit, which is expected to be mated to a dual clutch transmission or a seven speed Speedshift automatic transmission. As the four pot is expected to develop around 250 hp, the B-Klasse AMG will play in the top league of the hot hatch segment.
