German engineers from Audi are in Spain right now, but it's not so they can take it easy and enjoy the good weather. A new generation of Audi Q7 is being put through it paces there, and we have the latest spy footage of the large SUV being put through its paces.
Using a brand new platform, Audi has developed a car that is lighter both lighter and stronger than before. Space frame technology combines aluminum with high-strength steel, thus ensuring the Q7 has improved performance, economy and safety. Rather embarrassingly, the Q7 is one of the least safe models in its class, after receiving only 4 stars in pre-2009 tests, which mind you are a lot less strict than they are right now.

Much like the current generation, the Q7 will be one of the most spacious premium SUV out there, offering a third row of seats. The latest MMI system will be offered inside, along with much-improved interior design and features.

As for the engine range, the new 4.0-liter biturbo TFSI will make an appearance, as will a much better 3.0-liter TDI engine, which is the mainstay of sales in this class. There will also be an e-tron model with rumored electric range of about 30 km.

The new Q7 is due out in the fall of 2014 and as such still has a way to go before being ready for production. We're eager to see these prototype headlights being swapped out for the new LED Matrix system fitted to the A8. We don't yet know if it will be fitted as standard, but there's absolutely no way full-LED won't be offered.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
