Mercedes-Benz is getting ready to launch its BMW X4 competitor. The car you see in the adjacent photo gallery is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe.
Spied in Sweden by our collaborating spy photographers, the GLC Coupe prototype seen in the pictures looks pretty close to production spec. However, a little camouflage never hurt anyone, so the mule is still tucked away under a crazy black-on-white scheme to make it difficult to figure out the shape of the vehicle. Therefore, the front bumper is camouflaged, and so is the entire back end of the car.

Interestingly, the front end isn’t that covered, showing a grille with a prominent badge and with another badge splashed on the hood for good measure. Naturally, both are covered up, but you can tell it’s a Mercedes-Benz from a mile away.

The front grille has only one horizontal bar and uses a diamond-ish pattern. The front fenders bring no surprises to the table, and neither do the front doors.

The hood has a nice shape and makes the front overhang seem longer than it is. On an SUV like the GLC Coupe, the magic should happen at the back. If you guys remember the first BMW X6, the back end was the most criticized part of the car.

First of all, the first X6 tried to go for a Coupe silhouette on an SUV body, so the roof was pretty low where it met the rear hatch, and it looks like Mercedes-Benz might go for the same kind of compromise with the GLC Coupe.

A low roofline means less headroom that one would need in the rear, along with some design lines that might seem forced upon the car.

We notice a subtle spoiler fitted to the hatch of the GLC Coupe prototype and a rear bumper with an air diffuser hidden between two trapezoidal exhaust ornaments.

This exact car might either be a sportier trim for the GLC Coupe, or the future X4 fighter might try to go for a more sporty look.

We’ll know what the case is once the first pictures of the car are released sometime later this year.
