Some Kind of Monster: V12-Powered Cobra

Back in 1962, Carroll Shelby took a bunch of British AC Ace sportscars and stuffed them with Ford V8 engine. The musclecar that resulted from this experiment became a great success, with Shelby Cobra vehicles being quite sought after, rare and expensive nowadays.

In popular culture, Shelby Cobra is synonymous with V8 power. Forget them V6 engines and don’t you dare mention four-potters (even if they’re turbocharged). But how about V12 mills? Ever thought about such contraption? Well, Magnus Jinstrand did and he actually built his own interpretation of the Cobra using a Mercedes-Benz-source V12 engine. No joke, honest!

According to Speed Hunters, the Cobra depicted below is motivated by a 6.0-liter V12 engine, that used to power a 2001 CL600 (although our Mercedes-Benz expert says it’s actually a 5.8-liter), which was topped by a Lyshom 3500 twin-screw supercharger for 492 HP to the wheels and around 600 HP at the crank.

Besides being a monstrous gas-guzzler, this V12 Cobra is also an aggressive looking car, one Carroll Shelby himself would have been proud of. And yes, the vehicle was fitted with a rear diffuser and a rear wing, two parts we never though we’d see on a Cobra.
