Snoopy License Plates in California

Certainly you must remember Snoopy the beagle, one of the most recognizable comic characters in the world. Although mostly related to aviation, Snoopy is to be featured on a California special license plate, at the request of Phil Kohlmetz, President of the California Association of Museums.

Each plate will feature a reproduction of an original Snoopy drawing by Charles Schulz. The proceeds from sales of the Snoopy license plates will establish a sustainable grant program to support California museums.

California State Parks (CSP) is the official sponsor of the Snoopy license plate and will administer the grant program.

“Why Snoopy? Jean Schulz, the widow of Peanuts cartoonist Charles Schulz and founder the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center, the Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates and United Media, the licensing agent for PEANUTS, are generously giving royalty-free rights to the California Association of Museums (CAM) to establish a special license plate featuring Snoopy,” a statement reads.

Once 7,500 California drivers register interest for a Snoopy license plate, the state will begin collecting the appropriate fee from drivers who want their own Snoopy plate (starting at $50). Then, once 7,500 folks purchase a plate, the Snoopy license plate will go into production.

Plate sales will contribute to a designated State fund to benefit California museums via a competitive grant program. Enthusiasts can sign up for their own Snoopy plate by accessing the following link.
