Invented back in the late 1950s, carbon fiber has evolved over the years to the point that it is now used as both a highly functional construction material and a thing which people love to watch.
Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2014, the Mercedes-Benz SLK CarbonLOOK Edition comes with quite a hefty amount of carbon fiber which is not used to decrease its weight and increase its strength but for ornamental reasons only.

In other words, it fails to bring an ode to the meaning of the SLK letters, which originally stood for Sport, Leicht, Kurz (Sport, Light and Short in German), as the current R172 generation is a bit far from being a featherweight.

Despite this, the addition of either real carbon fiber or carbon-look trim on the SLK is neither kitschy, nor useless, even if we are only talking about ornaments.

The CarbonLOOK Edition also comes with the AMG bodykit in standard, high-sheen 5-spoke light-alloy wheels in titanium grey, dark-tinted headlights, roll-over bars in anodized aluminium, a lowered sports suspension and a larger braking system.

The interior is pretty much adorned in carbon fiber trim, while the two-tone upholstery features both black nappa leather and designo titanium grey pearl with a cool-looking lime green piping on the seats and the door panels.

Available for the SLK 200, SLK 250, SLK 350 and the SLK 250 CDI, the CarbonLOOK Edition brings an extra cost of between EUR 6426 and EUR 6902 including VAT in Germany.
