Slamstop Brings Soft-Close Doors to Any Car

There are plenty of vehicle technologies out there these days that have trickled down from fancy luxury cars to our normal everyday cars, but Slamstop has introduced a new product that provides soft-close doors as an aftermarket accessory. These doors, usually found on high-end models, make doors easier to shut without having to slam or do the dreaded hip check if you don’t get it closed the first time.

Like the soft-close doors available from luxury brands like BMW and Mercedes-Benz, the Slamstop allows the car door to be closed gently and then slowly draws the door completely shut. It can be equipped on all four doors and even sliding doors – just in case you own a minivan.

We designed this product to appeal to a wide audience – to provide security for a young family with little ones in the backseat or add a luxurious element to a high-end performance vehicle. We want this product to become a standard for safety, and convenience. Never again do owners need to stop and get out of their vehicle to finish closing a door left ajar,” said Dmitriy Iurgens, Chief Financial Officer of Slamstop.

The Russian-based company says that it has tested the product for 30,000 door closing cycles, which is what most cars will experience over 10 years of use. This product is designed at any car enthusiast looking to add the latest technology to his or her car. Slamstop is expected to go on sale in the U.S. this fall, and it will be on display at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in November. Better yet, it is equipped with a sensor to prevent the door from closing on people's fingers. "If the Slamstop senses anything in between the door and its frame, the mechanism will release and the door will not finish closing."

Pricing for Slamstop will vary by the retailer, but the company estimates that it should cost between $800 and $1,000 for the device to be installed on a four-door vehicle. Looking very similar to a power window motor, the developer says the Slamstop is easy to install with standard tools, but it isn’t clear if drilling or any other modifications must be made.
