Skoda Will Build Rapid in Russia from 2014
The Rapid sedan is going to be key for this growth, and will be locally produced at VW Group’s plant at Kaluga from early 2014. Until that time, Skoda is investigating if launching the model using imports is feasible.
"The Skoda Rapid sets new standards in the compact saloon segment and is certain to further strengthen our favourable position especially in Russia," says Skoda CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. "We are convinced the Rapid will prove extremely popular with Russian customers and become a success in this country. The Skoda Rapid is a roomy, elegant and affordable car for families, impressing with clever solutions, cutting-edge technology and high efficiency.”
Production of the Rapid sedan, which slots in the range between the Fabia and Octabia, started at koda’s home factory, in the Czech town of Mlada Boleslav. It will be available in Europe with a range of engines, including a base 1.2-liter petrol, a 14 TSI wih 122 and various outputs of VW’s 1.6 TDI.
