Skoda to Start Yeti Production in Ukraine

VW Group, which currently builds Skoda Yeti in Czech Republic, will start production of the crossover SUV in Ukraine later this month. Eurocar, who's currently in charge of VW Group's operation in Ukraine, will handle production in the country, insideline.com reported today citing a company statement. The Yeti will be priced at around $25,000 in Ukraine and will compete against Nissan Qashqai, Suzuki Grand Vitara and Kia Sportage.

Across Europe, the car is offered with a choice of five engines, two gasoline and three diesel, producing between 103 and 167 horsepower. The 1.2-liter TSI with front-wheel drive is the smallest displacement-engine in the lineup, followed by the 2.0-liter TDI CR DPF unit that comes with either front wheel drive or 4x4. The top of the range engine is the 2.0-liter TDI CR DPF all-wheel drive that produces 167 horsepower.

As for pricing, it starts at £13,750 ($22,532) but it could be slightly different depending on the country.

The entry-level Yeti is the E, which starts at £13,750 and is available in front-wheel drive, with either a 1.2 TSI unit or the 2.0 TDI CR 110 bhp diesel engine. Yeti E features air conditioning, remote central locking, driver and passenger front side and curtain airbags, sound system with single CD player, 16-inch wheels and front electric windows.

The Yeti was officially unveiled in 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show and went on sale in Europe in September. Until now, Skoda's plant in Kvasiny, Czech Republic was the only facility building the car.
