Skoda to Debut Logan Rival this Month

The cheapest model in Skoda’s lineup is about to take the world by surprise at the end of this month, as the Czech manufacturer will take the wraps off what is said to be the company’s Dacia Logan rival at the Moscow Auto show. The event, starting on August 28, will see the new low-cost model from Skoda debuting under the name Felicia.

According to sources close to the matter, the new low-cost Skoda Felicia model is based on the Volkswagen Polo sedan platform, and will reportedly replace the current Octavia Tour model on some European markets.

The sedan will be available in 1.4 and 1.6-liter petrol engines, but will also benefit from a diesel unit, namely a 1.6-liter TDI. As a low-cost, the vehicle will likely come with a poor list of standard equipment and safety features, but Skoda says it aims to gain customers through a wide interior space and a high level of reliability.

There is no information, however, regarding the rumored A1-based Skoda Fabia, but the Czech manufacturer will most likely keep the launch of this much anticipated model for 2011.

Other Skoda models to be showcased at the upcoming Moscow Auto Show include the Laura, Fabia, Octavia RS, Octavia Combi, Scout 4x4 and the Roomster. Besides this, the company is also expected to showcase a new hatchback variant of its popular sedan Skoda Fabia. Currently, the company sells the Octavia model as Octavia Tour in the Russian market and the 2011 Skoda Octavia will be a successor to this car in the country.
