Skoda is one of the few car companies that somehow does well without a halo car. They've just discontinued the Fabia vRS and have no intention to expand the lineup. The only people who buy the Octavia vRS are the ones who need a big trunk, because everybody knows the technology is somewhat inferior to the German equivalent (Golf GTI).
But what if the Czechs channeled all their WRC expertise and launched something genuinely exciting, something unashamedly oriented at people who like to go fast? How about a €50,000 "in your face, Audi!" sort of vehicle?

This next rendering is that car, the Superb Combi vRS rendered by Remco M. It doesn't exist right now and probably never will. But something as minor as economics or… reality won't stop us from imagining a Czech rival for the Audi RS4.

In theory, the project can be pulled off. Volkswagen is working on a 6-cylinder engine that will fit with the MQB platform. It's probably a 3-liter TSI with about 350 horsepower and a rich amount of torque, somewhere in the region of 500 Newtons of the meter.

With that much punch and an all-wheel drive system, Skoda could theoretically make a car that can keep up with the Mercedes C450 AMG Estate.

But we also need to remember that Volkswagen is going crazy right now. The Germans are plotting a 2-liter turbocharged engine with 400 horsepower or more. It will debut next year on the Golf R hyper hatch. Given the Superb shares its platform with the Golf, an engine swap could take place.

Let's talk about the rendering a little bit. The designer installed a set of 20-inch alloy wheels and the body kit from the Octavia. Numerous elements, including the grille, were blacked out to give the car a sportier appearance. Why go for the Combi? Because 660 liters of boot space is not a bad thing at all.

Editor's note: If we keep writing about these crazy renderings, sooner or later Skoda will figure out we want a Superb vRS.
