Sergio Pininfarina Passes at Age 85
text size: A- A+
His involvement with Pininfarina began in 1950, when he began working for the family-owned business, only to become its manager less than 10 years later, and its chairman 6 more years afterward. Also, in 2005, he was appointed ‘Senator for life’ by the Italian government, which basically means that his mandate as senator would end only with his death.
He was also the person which moved Pininfarina out of its automotive-oriented design philosophy, and in 1987, he founded an industrial design center, focusing on anything from kitchen appliances to laptops and even riding helmets, thus ensuring that if the uncertain future would frown upon automotive design, the company would still survive.
