Self-Driving Cars Now Legal in California
Governor Edmund ‘Jerry’ Brown signed the bill and turned it into a law on Tuesday, accompanied by Google co-founder Sergey Brin, as well as State Senator Alex Padilla (the author of the bill). When asked what he thinks of the idea, Governor Brown replied: "Anybody who first gets in the car and finds the car is driving will be a little skittish. But they'll get over it." - he is right.
Now, with 300,000 miles (480,000 km) already driven, Google’s self-driving cars are genuinely showing us the way into the future, and since the rate of technologic progress is growing at an exponential rate, we may see this technology successfully implemented in something one could buy sooner, rather than much later. The law currently states that a driver is required behind the wheels at all times, to intervene in case things go wrong, but the driver will soon become redundant.
