Proclaimed as a miracle of engineering, the 918 Spyder is a monster supercar that likes to live on gas as much as it “breaths” electric. And for a huge Porsche collector like Jerry Seinfeld, who is reported to own 49 Porsches, it was only a matter of time people would see him taking the new model to the road. The renown comedian was seen taking the hybrid beast at the Malibu Country Mart, on Sunday.
Each of these extreme petrol-electric rides were pressed to order and for those who signed up early, the wait was over ever since its official unveiling. This brings us to Seinfeld’s car, who, according to a Porsche source quoted by Yahoo Autos back in June, got his early this summer. You see, that is why there is no surprise in seeing the famous comedian getting the hybrid baby on the streets.

You probably already heard about McLaren P1’s main competitor, which Porsche unveiled less than three months ago. The 918 Spyder produces nearly 900 horsepower, 286 of them from electric motors paired to one of the world’s greatest naturally-aspirated V8 engines. The new model is a crazy hybrid state of the art beauty that allegedly gets 67 miles per gallon. The 918 is also the only production car with factory-fitted tires to ever run the Nurburgring in less than seven minutes.

And of course, the $845,000 hypercar was intended to reach only a few on this planet. Few, rich and with a great car enthusiasm, that is - just like Jerry Seinfeld. Porsche is building only 918 of them, unlike the more exclusive LaFerrari (499) and McLaren P1 (375), but that doesn’t mean they were not going to choose only the most eccentric buyers.

As to Seinfeld and cars... Well, you probably already heard about the jaw-dropping collection he has. In fact, he even rented a hangar at the Santa Monica Airport, in Santa Monica, California, for an extended period of time during the 1990s for storage of some of the vehicles in the collection.

We can only hope there won’t be any more incidents like the one that happened in August, when a middle-aged woman started parallel parking her BMW 5 Series in front of his car and accidentally scraped the front fascia of the comedian’s 1973 Porsche RSR.
