As we reported earlier, the fans of Royal Enfield have good reasons to celebrate, as the manufacturer has recently opened a new production facility in Oragadam, India, and thus reduced drastically the waiting time, which in some cases was up to 8 (yes, eight) months.
The new Royal Enfield plant near Chennai is currently rolling out 250,000 units a year, with prospects to reach half a million bikes in 2014.When the plant will reach full production capacity, the waiting time will be reduced to around 3 months.
At the moment of writing, the Enfield engines are brought at the Oragadam factory from Tiruvottiyur, but the new plant is rumored to build the engines in-house. The Royal Enfield bikes are painted both manually and using robots, with artwork such as pinstripes on select model still being painted manually.
According to Autocar India, who provided these pictures, the present number of employees in the Oragadan plant is 200, with 20% of the workers being women. So when you're receiving your new Royal Enfield, you might be on a bike previously ridden by a lady, and seeing women and bikes together is good.
