Sebastien Loeb Wins 7th Monte Carlo Rally
However, it caused more than just problems fro the drivers, as the spectators who had gathered to watch the cars were forced to go home, and they congested the local roads, to the point where the local authorities were forced to cancel the last two stages of the rally (17th and 18th stages). They did this because in the event of an accident, they would not have had easy access to the site, and would not have been able to respect safety protocol.
So, in the end, the results up until the 16th stage were tallied up, and Loeb was crowned winner. He was followed by another man called Sebastien - Oigier, who drove his Volkswagen Polo WRC quickly and constantly, managing to stanch second place, while his teammate Jari-Matti Latvala crashed, while being in sixth place, and was forced to retire.
The Monte Carlo rally also marked the debut of VW's Polo WRC rally car in an official rally.
