SEAT Launches Leon Ecomotive in Britain

Do you think the modularity of the Volkswagen Group MQB platform has no value for the end customer? Think again, because this allowed the group to quickly develop and launch a number efficient compact cars, all powered by the same engine.

For SEAT, the ailing Spanish carmaker, this means the new Leon Ecomotive. The car has just gone on sale in Britain and promises very impressive stats: emissions of just 87 grams per kilometer with 85.6 miles per gallon.

Responsible for this rating is a 1.6 TDI diesel engine, mated exclusively to a six-speed manual gearbox with wide ratios. SEAT also made a number of other mods, like lowering the suspension and reducing underbody drag.

These changes help the Leon Ecomotive travel 11.3 miles further per gallon of fuel than the standard Leon 1.6 TDI. It's also cleaner by 12 g/km than the old Ecomotive, but the cool thing is power has actually been increased slightly from 105 PS to 110 PS.

Sadly, some of the money you'll be saving on fuel will go towards buying the car, because it costs £19,360. However, you do get standard 16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights with cornering function, cruise control, a leather steering wheel and gear knob, air conditioning and more.
