This year’s GTI tuning event at Worthersee in early June saw a gathering of extremely interesting automotive contraptions, many of them however bound to never see the green light to production. However, this is not SEAT’s case, as they brought an extremely interested line-up formed of its sportiest models in the Ibiza and Leon ranges.

On of these examples on show included a cup racer dedicated to the single-brand competition for Spain and Italy, in the form of the brand new Ibiza SC Trophy, which you can see in the adjacent images.

Under the bonnet of the Ibiza SC Trophy lies the 180 hp unit from the Cupra, which is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. The cup racer has steering wheel shift paddles like the series-production model. To tackle the high lateral forces generated under tough racing conditions, the engine is equipped with a modified oil sump. Finally, the necessary stopping power system comes from the Leon Cupra and does so via the 345 mm (front) and 288 mm (rear) discs.

Compared with the series-production model, SEAT has increased the wheelbase of the cup race car by 13 mm, while the front track is up by 170 mm and the rear by 29 mm.

Weighing in at just 1,063 kg (482 lbs), the Ibiza SC Trophy has also been lowered by 40 millimeters, with the toe-in and camber allowed to be individually adjusted. The Ibiza SC Trophy rides on 17-inch wheels, housed in distinctive, flared arches.

At the rear, an additional spoiler generates the necessary downforce while cornering. Finally, the dashboard is more minimalist than in the series-production version, but it has all it needs to provide only the data that is truly relevant to track drivers.
