Scuderi Engine Reduces Nissan Sentra's Fuel Consumption by Up to 35%
text size: A- A+
The primary purpose of the Study was to answer the fundamental question: how much gas mileage will the Scuderi engine achieve? The lab mounted the Nissan Sentra on a chassis dynamometer and drove the vehicle through the FTP-75 drive cycle to generate the benchmark data. Various SSC engine models were sized to match the acceleration and power of the Sentra’s conventional engine.
Each Scuderi engine was then placed into the baseline Sentra vehicle and driven, via computer simulations, through the same FTP-75 drive cycle. Results were compared to the Sentra when operating with its conventional engine.
The Sentra model was simulated through a standardized Federal Test Procedure-75 (FTP-75) drive cycle for each SSC engine design. Preliminary results of the Study showed that up to a 25 percent decrease in fuel consumption was achievable with an SSC engine replacing the Sentra’s engine when factoring in fuel cutoff during deceleration and idle in the model.
Results also showed that up to 35 percent decrease in fuel consumption was achievable when compared to the model Nissan Sentra using a stock engine without fuel cutoff.
“These results continue to verify the real-life applicability of our engine design,” said Sal Scuderi, president of Scuderi Group. “At every step in the development and testing of our engine, we continue to see additional fuel efficiency gains. Our split-cycle configuration is creating the basis for implementing additional propulsion advances that move beyond conventional engine design.”

WOW!! Imagine a car getting 50 plus milage, much less expensive to manufacture than any hybrid on the market, and burns 80% less NOX. This is a grand slam for the OEM's, the consumer, and the environment. The various OEM's won't be able to manufacture cars with the Scuderi engine design quick enough to supply the demand to the public.

Southwest Reasearch Institute has a stellar, world renown reputation. I've been following this technology for at least 2 years and it looks like this works. I guess this will reduce our dependence on foreign oil. If they ever sign with and OEM, the floodgates will open and I can see this company taking off like Google. Anyone have any idea about an IPO?

Paul, you are living in fantasy land. Great news here, great news there, great news everywhere. Unfortunately, the "independent" lab is not named. Probably because it is SWRI. By contract, SWRI cannot release any info, so the only news we get is what the manufacturer wants to release. For your info, if a lab is paid by the company doing the testing, is it truly independent? The answer is that it is not. I love the company. I love the technology. That said, I have gone to the initial investor meetings and I've come away with the following thoight: a product this good should sell itself. I personallything that the oem's that have signed ndr's are spooked by something. What is is I do not know, but theta is a bad side to this tech that is not being revealed.

Edward,
Maybe you should read the "White papers" recently released at the Detroit SAE technology show it costs $22.00 the Scuderi technology is very sound. The main reason why the results don't come directly from SWRI is 1) to protect against potential patent infrigement on the on going engine research and developement. 2) to control the release of real data to NDA signers only, protecting their interest and Scuderi Group LLC. (sound business practice in my eyes).
