Scott Dixon Immortalized on Postage Stamps
According to indycar.com, the IndyCar Series champion is one of the five New Zealand race car/motorcycle drivers featured in a New Zealand Champions of World Motorsport stamp series created by New Zealand Post.
"His success is the culmination of 15 years' hard work - a career that we've been following ever since we first saw him at age 13 with a pillow strapped to his waist to help him see over the wheel," said Ivor Masters, General Manager Stamps.
The 28-year-old motor racing driver who has twice won the Indy Racing League (IRL) championship in the United States, in 2003 on his first attempt and again in 2008 seems extremely pleased with the New Zealand's Post idea.
"It's crazy. I can't believe I am on a stamp," confessed Dixon. "I would never have thought I would have the honor. I can't wait to see them and I will be using them for as long as I can."
What's more, the other race car drivers featured in a New Zealand Champions of World Motorsport stamp series are Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme and motorcyclists Ivan Mauger and Hugh Anderson.
"Kiwis are known for their competitiveness, so it's no surprise that we've produced a long list of motorsport champions," Masters added. "For this stamp issue, we have selected five greats who performed with distinction on the world stage."
The stamps featuring the New Zealand's race symbols were released this week and cost only 50 cent, which is the going rate for regular posts.
