Back in 2013, BMW decided to celebrate the imminent demise of the E92 M3 with a couple of special edition models. Amongst them was one called the Lime Rock Park Edition. Only 200 were ever made and all of them were sent to the US. Could BMW do the same trick with the new M4?
One dealership sure wants us to think so. A BMW F82 M4 labeled ‘Limerock Special Edition’ was just spotted somewhere in the US. Judging by the plates and the Texas flag on the boot lid, we’d be tempted to say it was in Dallas, at the Plano’s Classic dealership but we’re yet to confirm that information.

What we do know, however, is that this M beast was dressed up to look just like the old E92 M3 LRP models used to. On the outside, the car is wearing the famous Fire Orange II paint, carbon fiber mirror caps and carbon fiber rear spoiler as well as a complete carbon tint on the windows. Up front, the kidney grilles were also changed with gloss black M Performance ones.

To make it seem like the real deal even more, the bonnet’s sound insulation was removed, just like it was the case on the real Lime Rock Park models. Unfortunately, that’s about as far as the similarities go.

BMW didn’t make an official LRP M4 and this is just an attempt done by an overenthusiastic crowd. The E92 M3 models that were designed under Bavarian supervision were equipped with a complete carbon fiber set of performance parts (roof, front splitter, rear spoiler), had the competition package on, a lower ride height, and special Inconel-Titanium exhaust.

According to the VIN of the car, this M4 is decked with basically everything you could possibly fit on the M model. Therefore, the MSRP price of $86,975 is rather justifiable since you get everything, from LED headlights to the DCT 7-speed gearbox and the Harman/Kardon sound system, the Driving Assistant Plus, Adaptive M Suspension and many many others.

Word on the street is that BMW is working on a GTS M4 model as we speak but there’s still a long way to go until we’ll get to see it in the flesh. Furthermore, a Competition Package is also on the way. That’s great news for people that want extra performance but don’t want to get the GTS model that will most likely be built in limited numbers.
