The only models that are keeping Scion alive now are the FR-S sports coupe and its little brother tC. Still, they are not enough and Scion said a while ago they will do some changes in the lineup, which appear to start with the good ol’ xB.
Those who love simple boxy designs have only a few more months to buy a brand new Scion xB model, because, according to Automotive News, the automaker will ditch it in the spring of 2015.
Scion won’t leave the spot empty, because it seems to replace the xB with a rebadged European Toyota Auris, which is based on the new Corolla platform but comes with a more useful rear double-whishbone suspension and a hatch at the back.
Of course, for the US market, the new xB, if that will remain its name, won’t come with the 1.8-liter VVT-i unit. Comparing it with the current 2.4-liter unit in the xB, it might not stand stand a chance.
Regarding its possible new name, Scion can choose anything from iA, iD, iM, tD, tK, tR, tS and tZ, as these are the rest of the trademarks Toyota applied for in the US.
In other news, the tiny Scion iQ will also be discontinued at the end of this year, while the xD hatch might get a sedan replacement based on the Mazda2 model that will be manufactured in the Salamanca, Mexico, plant starting next year.
The FR-S and tC recently received their refresh, so don’t expect anything new for at least one year.
