Scion Paid Crooks & Castles $15,000 to Come Up with This Tuned iM at the 2015 SEMA

This year, at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas, Scion decided to bring out four of its cars in different clothing. The company contacted four different brands and asked them to tune two iM hatchbacks and two iA sedans and then show them to the world.

Apart from Eddie Huang’s lowrider iA and Skybound Entertainment’s creation that relates to the Walking Dead show, there will also be this iM on display once the show kicks off.

The car was built by streetwear brand Crooks & Castles, but they didn’t pay for a thing. The money and the car needed for this transformation were provided by Scion, who launched this initiative as a sort of challenge. Scion offered each of their two lifestyle partners $15,000 for the transformation jobs.

The car built by Crooks & Castles uses a wide body kit, just like the Japanese car culture would, with Rob Panlilio, the co-founder of the company, sticking to his roots. An AccuAir suspension was also used mostly because it is needed to cope with the smallest speed bumps, especially taking into account the new body shape of the thing.

Overall, they stuck to just black and white, a classic approach, one that exudes elegance in this compact and yet "strange" package. The interior has a roll cage wrapped in all-white leather, with black race seats contrasting against them.

To complete the package, the car was also fitted with a set of custom wheels featuring white mesh for the windows, chromed lips and red center caps. Even the tires adhered to the black and white theme, with the manufacturer’s name being highlighted in white paint.

Overall, the two iM cars part of the company’s Annual Scion Tuner Challenge look rather interesting, especially considering what the guys had to work with in the first place.
