Schumacher Will Not Leave F1 without 8th Title

Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher once again put things back to its place regarding his motor racing career with Mercedes GP, telling reporters that he has every intention of continuing his second stint in F1 until the age of 43, which includes the 2011 season.

Although signing a 3-year deal with the German marque at the end of last year, several media suggested (continuously) that the 41-year old might quit the job at the end of this year due to his poor results at comeback. Even his No 1 fan Bernie Ecclestone hinted such a move could be possible in case Schumacher doesn't start winning or having at least some success in the series.

Standing 9th overall in the 2010 classification and with no chances to battling for the title whatsoever (realistically speaking), the German veteran looks with confidence towards the next season and insists he will not retire completely until winning his 8th crown in the Great Circus.

It is what I mentioned the other day – that I officially publicized when I rejoined F1 – which is to win the title. That is my focus and that is what I am here for,” said Schumacher, according to Autosport, when talking to the reporters.

Additionally, he admitted he is not perfectly happy with what he has achieved so far – a few weeks ago he stated otherwise – but, considering all the aspects of his return, he has done pretty well.

Am I perfectly happy with my own performance? That is probably the wrong thing to say. There is an expectation out there, but you have to be realistic that it is probably impossible to meet. To be out three years and start where I finished in a car that doesn't allow me do it, is unrealistic,” added Schumacher.

His not-so-good performances this season have also led to fewer than expected sold tickets for the weekend, despite the fact that this is his home race. According to reports, there will be some seats empty in the grandstands from Friday through Sunday.
