Saudi Prince Motorcade Hijacked by Armed Robbers: $335,000 and Documents Stolen

The motorcade of a Saudi prince heading to an airport in Le Bourget, Paris, was hijacked Sunday night. Fortunately nobody was injured, as the robbers seemed to proceed on a premeditated attack that targeted the car transporting EUR250,000 ($335,000) and “sensitive” documents.

The spectacular robbery took place in northern Paris late on Sunday as the motorcade was making its way from a plush hotel on the Champs Elysees to an airport in Le Bourget, police later confirmed. According to AFP, a gang of “between five and eight” thieves in two BMWs hijacked the first of around 10 vehicles in the convoy, driving off with the three occupants before letting them go.

A police source said that the thieves were armed with Kalashnikov rifles but an official later clarified to say they were carrying hand guns. The Saudis’ Mercedes and one of the thieves’ BMWs were later found abandoned and burned out in Saint-Mesmes, a village in the north of Paris, approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the crime scene.

Even though the investigation is under way and the robbers were still not caught, authorities think they are looking at a well-informed group of criminals who didn’t care about the consequences of their actions. Moreover, if the documents that were stolen will prove to be sensible and important as rumors already claim, than the nature of the crime could change and the matter could become a lot more serious.

The natural question left to ask is whether the thieves would've been caught by French cops already if they had the same cars cops drive in Dubai.
