While we’re all waiting for Porsche to treat us with the new 991 GT3 RS, we though it would be appropriate to bring you a piece of GT3 play coming from a person who’s more than qualified to talk about this, Sabine Schmitz.
For those who aren’t already familiar with the one called “the Queen of the Nurburgring”, we’ll mention she has over 20,000 Nurburgring km (12,500 miles) on her resume. She is a former Ring Taxi driver, in her personal 997 GT3 RS and racing a 911 GT3 R in the VLN Championship. And yes, she was made famous by Top Gear.

Sabine recently decided to play the comparo game, pitting her 997.2 GT3 RS against the 991-generation GT3. The exact nature of the comparison makes this rather irrelevant, since we’re talking about a drag race, not a hot lap.

Nonetheless, the action proves just how many things have changed with the GT3. While Sabine plays the tree-pedal game in her 997, things go PDK-smooth in the 911, especially since the Launch Control function is present.

Later on in the clip, Sabine jumps in the 991 GT3 and it all becomes obvious - the performance has been taken to such a level, that having to switch gears yourself would only slow things down.

Look closely and you’ll notice Sabine aims to change gears herself via the steering-wheel mounted paddles, but she gives up once she notices just how devilish the gearbox is.

Still, the driver inside her doesn’t let her finish the session without throwing the gauntlet. Despite the 24 hp and manual gearbox disadvantage on her car, she relies on her skills, as well as on the 60 kg (130 lbs) advantage when calling the 991 GT3 out for a track battle. That’s the Rennsport spirit!
