Saab, the Swedish brand which last year was at the center of so many manifestations of passion and hope, is back on track. Judging by the joy with which Saab begun, since it was taken over by Spyker, to preview its future lineup of vehicles, we can only look forward to what may very well be the rebirth of a good, solid, yet never mainstream line of cars.
Getting ready for the Los Angles Auto Show which takes place next month, Saab previews the 9-4X, a model which marks the entrance of the brand into the luxury mid-size crossover segment. An entrance which is hoped to bring the carmaker those illusive sales figures which last year almost sent it to the history books of the automotive industry.
A blend in styling and engineering between the Aero X concept and the Cadillac SRX, the 9-4X comes powered by two V6 engines, a 3.0l naturally-aspirated and a 2.8l turbo. The units are paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and develop 265 hp and 300 hp, respectively.
Being Swedish in nature, the 9-4X brings with it all the quality and safety customers are used to from such a car. The crossover is packed with infotainment, ranging from the optional 8-inch, touchscreen hard disk based navigation system and ending with a Bose system with 5.1 surround sound.
The comfort of the passengers is insured by features like independent climate control for the rear seats and two 8-inch screens in the rear face of the front seatbacks.
"The 9-4X significantly broadens the appeal of the Saab brand," says a hopeful Saab Automobile CEO Jan Åke Jonsson.
"It gives us entry to the fast-growing crossover segment with a vehicle that reflects our brand values in key areas, such as progressive Scandinavian design and sporty, responsible driving performance. The 9-4X is an exciting package and we're confident it will appeal to many existing Saab owners, as well as win new customers for the brand."
